A busy weekend with thanksgiving travelers

This weekend is one of the busiest weekend for us at the candy store. We saw a lot of of  familiars faces though out the weekend, as well as meeting new ones. Friday we made our most favorite hard candy drop, which is lemon drops. Which is made up of lemon flavoring and is very good and not over powering. We also made horehound sticks as well because we were out. To make our horehound flavoring we have to brew a tea and let it set for awhile. Most people do not like the smell or taste of horehound, but I like it because it reminds me of good times I had with my great grandma because it was a candy she loved. Saturday I worked a half a day because I had other commitments I had to attended to but we cooked up pecan fudge. Sunday we were very busy, we also had  a lot of kids come into the store and watch us make our grape flavored lollipops. I mostly ran the cash register then help on the table because of all the people.

Little piece of history

The last couple of weeks at the candy store has been slow. As well as I haven't been working because I have other plans so I took some time off to enjoy myself. So for my blog I decided to give a little history lesson about the candy store.
A theory about where the o'henry candy bar was invented by a man named Tom Henry of Arkansas city, Kansas. Tom Henry ran a candy company called the Peerless candy factory, and in 1919 he started making the Tom Henry candy bar. He sold the candy bar to Williamson Candy Company in 1920, where they later changed the name to "Oh Henry!". Henry's family now runs a candy factory in Dexter, Kansas that sells "momma henry" bars, which are nearly identical to the original candy bar.
The store before it's current location  was located in downtown dexter, the building is still staying and is now called the gathering place. Henry's moved from this location in 1975 to their current location because we would see more cars on the highway then in downtown dexter. We also share the build with our local volunteer fire department.

Slow week

This week in the the candy making business was real slow for us, it was the slowest week I have ever experienced in the candy store since I been working in there. This weekend we had to fill our orders that people have made for us to make and we also had to make for the store.
Friday we made our delicious Carmel fudge log rolls. These are made out of carmel and pecan nuts and roll into what looks like a log.
Saturday we made peanut brittle. Half was for an ordered that we had to finish. The other half was for  our peanut brittle toffee. Which is mostly peanut brittle deep in chocolate. It is very delicious.
Sunday we made peppermint lollipops and candy canes and sticks and had a lot of fun. We hardly had anyone come into the store. The weather makes a big difference when people what to get out or stay at home.
But it still is fun working at the candy store getting to tell people all about the different candies and how it has change over the years
